Celebrate Pride Month June 13th with LGBTQ+ Safe Zone Training in Lake County

June is internationally recognized as Pride Month, a time to celebrate and support the LGBTQ+ community. This year, the LGBTQ+ Center of Lake County and the Northern Illinois Recovery Community Organization (NIRCO) are coming together to host an enlightening event aimed at fostering inclusivity and understanding. Join them for a free Community Safe Zone Presentation on June 13, 2024, from 12 pm to 1 pm, located at 202 S. Genesee St, Suite 202, Waukegan, IL 60085.

What is Safe Zone Training?

Safe Zone trainings are educational sessions where participants can learn about LGBTQ+ identities, gender, and sexuality. These trainings are crucial for promoting understanding and dismantling prejudices within communities. The session will cover a range of topics, including:

  • Exploring LGBTQ+ identities and the spectrum of gender and sexuality.

  • Addressing and reflecting on personal attitudes and biases.

  • Understanding the complex concepts of sex and gender diversity.

Why Should You Attend?

Participation in Safe Zone training is more than just an educational commitment; it's a step towards becoming an active ally to the LGBTQ+ community. Here’s why you should consider attending:

  • Safety and Inclusivity: LGBTQ+ individuals often face uncertainties about how they will be received in new environments. This training provides tools and strategies to help ensure that everyone feels safe, welcomed, and supported.

  • Personal Growth: Attending these trainings can help you challenge your preconceptions and grow in understanding and empathy.

  • Community Building: The sessions are designed to be engaging and fun, offering a great opportunity to meet like-minded individuals who are also committed to equality and inclusion.

Additional Benefits

All attendees will receive valuable take-home materials to reinforce the lessons learned during the session. Additionally, each participant will be awarded a "Safe Zone Trained" sticker, symbolizing their commitment to supporting and being an ally to the LGBTQ+ community.
